EZProxy Remote Access to the Denver Medical Library - Frequently Asked Questions
Who can use EZProxy to get to the Library's resources?
The remote access portal is only available to P/SL staff and Denver Medical Society members for an annual fee.
What is EZProxy?
EZProxy is an authentication system that allows people who have subscribed to the Denver Medical Library portal to easily access the library's electronic journals, databases and books. P/SL staff and Denver Medical Society members can use their login and password to access these resources any time on any internet accessible computer, anywhere in the world.
How does EZProxy work?
The great majority of the library's resources are authenticated by IP (Internet Protocol) address. If you are physically in the library and you browse to one of our resources through our website, you are using the library's IP address. At home, in your office, or on other networks (such as the PSL employee network) you are using a different IP address. EZProxy temporarily changes your IP address to match the library's IP address so that you are able to access DML's IP authenticated content.
How do I use EZProxy?
To use EZPRoxy, begin by going to our homepage (www.denvermedlib.org) and browsing for content you want to use (databases, eJournals, eBooks, etc). When you click on a link for something that is IP authenticated, and you are not already on the library's network, you will be asked for a login and password on a screen looking like this:
When you enter a legitimate login and password, you will pass through to the resource as though you were at the library. Your "new IP" will be maintained for the length of your browser session, so you won't have to keep entering the login and password every time you encounter a resource you want to use.
I clicked on a link and I still got the publisher's login screen. What should I do?
Broken links happen. We will do our best to troubleshoot a problem and provide a solution to our patrons. If any of the following happens to you, please let us know:
- After logging into an EZPRoxy screen you still see publisher's login page
- After logging into PubMed you click a link that says "Denver Medical Library Online Collection" and you can't get to the article
After clicking on any link from the Denver Medical Library and logging into EZPRoxy you see a strange text-only error screen that tells you to contact your EZProxy administrator.
Can I change my login and/or password?
The DML Staff can help you change your login and/or password during normal business hours (M-F, 8a-4p). The system does not allow users to change their own codes.
What if my login and password doesn't work? What if I forget it?
The DML Staff can look up your information for you and/or reset it for you during normal business hours (M-F, 8am-4pm). If it has been more than a year since you signed up for or renewed the portal, there is a chance it has expired. Please contact us to renew.
I'm using PubMed and I can't get access to any articles I click on. Why?
There are now two links from our homepage to PubMed. The first link "PubMed for Portal Users" is the one you should use if you are outside of the library network and have a portal subscription. The second "PubMed" is for those who just want to search PubMed without having access to our articles.
If you are still unable to get articles after using the first link and logging in, please see question number 4, above.
